HELP IN SEPTEMBER: The Youth Groups have added a dinner to their Sunday evening meetings. Help with some supplies to use in preparing the meals, as well as volunteers to fix meals would be appreciated.

  • Macaroni mixes
  • Hot dogs
  • Refrigerated crescent rolls
  • Spaghetti noodles and spaghetti sauce
  • Bread
  • American cheese slices
  • Applesauce
  • Canned peaches
  • Chips
  • Assorted drink mixes
  • Granulated sugar (to sweeten drink mixes)

Contact Diane Stepro with any questions. She has been doing most of this herself and could really use some help. Thanks.

For the third year, our church will participate in the collection of back to school supplies to be distributed to area students on Saturday, August 7. Due to the economy, it is anticipated that the need will continue to be great as the four churches participating in VBS prepare to supply 400 children.

FUMC has been asked to supply:

  • 75 backpacks
  • 400 bottles of shampoo (200 suitable for girls and 200 suitable for boys)
  • 350 each of 24-count crayons
  • Crayola colored pencils
  • multi-colored markers
  • glue bottles
  • 300 glue sticks

A box will be in the Elevator Entry Room on the first floor of the Whitman Center for these items. Most of these supplies will be at the lowest prices during back to school sales, but if bargains are found please pass the word.

Cash donations are preferred for the small items as the possibility of bulk purchasing at a reduced price will be explored.

Please find a list of items needed for Higher Bound Ministry

VBS dates are July 25-29 (Sunday-Thursday), 6:00-8:30 PM with the closing program on Sunday, August 1, at 6:00 PM, all at the Free Methodist Church on 4th Street.

Monday, July 26, is the evening that FUMC is responsible for supplying extra help and snacks. Volunteers are needed for as many evenings as they are available, however.

The menu is the same one we had last year:

  • Grilled cheese sandwiches
  • Watermelon and cantaloupe
  • Rice Krispie treats
  • Drink

At this time we have the following volunteers:

Food for July 26: Velma Hendrix, Sue Mardis, Marilyn Chattin, Kathy Case

Storyteller for July 26: Lillian Klipsch

Registration: Linda Dobbyn

Guides: Khelia Brink for 1st and 2nd graders; Betty Mardis

Crafts: Jennifer Hensley, craft director for the entire VBS; Susan Meier and Pep Salmond

Games: Judy McLear, Diane Stepro, Abby Miller

Youth (to be placed as needed): Belana Stepro, Allison Miller, Nathan Springfield, and

Haylee Green

I think there were a couple of others who have told me they would help, but have not signed up on the bulletin board. Anyone else who is available; please let me know if you are planning to assist and your available dates and areas of interest.

Also, help with the preschoolers is still needed. Volunteers are still needed to work with the 3-4 year olds in a self-contained class setting. Music and crafts will be planned for this age by the music and craft volunteers and you will have assistance with games, but you (and a host of others) will be responsible for storytelling and keeping the little ones contained.

Please let me know how you wish to help or sign up on the bulletin board at church. Thanks, Cindy 886-6932

This Sunday, June 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., all children, youth, and adults of the congregation are invited to stay after Sunday School for pizza followed by the rescheduled Patriotic Ring and Sing. We’ll eat lunch, practice using the chimes, and depart from the church about 12:15 PM to visit, ring and sing for a few assisted living facilities, before returning to the church.

If you plan to attend. email or call Diane Stepro or contact Danielle Goodwin so they will know how many pizzas to order.

WEAR RED, WHITE & BLUE.

NO EVENING ACTIVITIES! This event will take the place of previously scheduled June 6 children or youth activities.

FUMC Members and Friends are invited to a luncheon in Fellowship Hall, at 11:30 a.m. after Sunday School on Sunday, May 23. For those who do not attend Sunday School, there will be coffee and good conversation before the luncheon begins. The Missions Committee, the Youth and the Wills & Bequests Committee are combining to make a special day for everyone. Keith Mardis is in charge of the food — ham sandwiches, potato salad, slaw, cake/ice cream for dessert, and drinks — all provided!

After we have eaten and socialized, Robyn Draeger will talk about her special mission with the Kairos team at the Rockville Women’s Penitentiary, taking the message of God’s love and forgiveness to a select group of women prisoners. To finish up the day, Diane Stepro will organize games for all who wish to play. Please plan to attend!

Just a reminder that this coming Friday, May 21st is the Patriotic Ring & Sing at two local assisted living facilities. We’re leaving from FUMC at 5 PM, so if you want to practice with the handchimes, be there a little early (say 4:40 PM). We’re wearing RED, WHITE, and BLUE! We need ringers, singers, and people to hand out goodies. If you have a little flag you want to bring to wave or some cool flag pin, headband, etc. to wear, that would totally be in the spirit! We’d love to have 3rd, 4th, 5th graders, and anyone else who wants to come – no experience necessary! Afterwards, we usually go to Zander’s for some icecream!

First United Methodist Friends,

A Vincennes father of 9 children woke up unable to walk one day a few weeks ago. He received treatment in Indianapolis for a suspected virus-related syndrome, and has returned home to continue with physical therapy. Because of his time-consuming medical needs, the family has expressed a need for carried-in meals.

If you feel called to prepare a meal for the family, please contact Diane Stepro at diane.stepro@gmail.com. Thank you in advance for sharing God’s love with this family.
