At the YMCA of Vincennes, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

ATTENTION PARENTS AND JUNIOR HIGH YOUTH (PLUS ANY INTERESTED SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH)

A Confirmation Class is beginning this fall. Any youth in Junior High or Senior High is invited to come to an organizational meeting on Sunday, August 29th with your parents, immediately following worship (10:30 AM) at the front of the sanctuary. We will check schedules and plan the best time to meet each week and answer any questions you might have.

Assistance is needed with Disciple Mart, BOTH THURSDAY AT 10 AM, AND SATURDAY, AUGUST 7 AT 9:30 AM at the First Christian Church, 319 Broadway Street. Adults of all ages and youth are needed to assist with the distribution of back packs and school supplies. This is a very organized and enjoyable event that meets the needs of about 500 students in our community.

Please call Sue at 882-0742 by Thursday, August 5, to let her know if you can assist.

Wednesday Bible Study resumes tonight, August 4 at 7 p.m. in the All-Occasion Room with Bill Amers. Everyone welcome to join us.

A new church cookbook is being put together by the ICU Class. If you have a recipe that you’d like included in the cookbook, please type or print it, and bring it or e-mail it to the church office as soon as possible.

We’re trying to have recipes from as many members of our church as possible in this cookbook. If a recipe is from a deceased member of our church, we would like to publish their picture with the recipe. If you only have a printed photo, we can scan the picture into a JPG file.

Questions? Contact Betty or Keith Mardis or Danielle Goodwin .

Saturday, July 10, from noon until 5 PM, Youth (Grades 6-12) meet at the church parking lot at 11:45 AM, to go to Terre Haute to visit the Candles Holocaust Museum. Lunch included.

For the third year, our church will participate in the collection of back to school supplies to be distributed to area students on Saturday, August 7. Due to the economy, it is anticipated that the need will continue to be great as the four churches participating in VBS prepare to supply 400 children.

FUMC has been asked to supply:

  • 75 backpacks
  • 400 bottles of shampoo (200 suitable for girls and 200 suitable for boys)
  • 350 each of 24-count crayons
  • Crayola colored pencils
  • multi-colored markers
  • glue bottles
  • 300 glue sticks

A box will be in the Elevator Entry Room on the first floor of the Whitman Center for these items. Most of these supplies will be at the lowest prices during back to school sales, but if bargains are found please pass the word.

Cash donations are preferred for the small items as the possibility of bulk purchasing at a reduced price will be explored.
